Psychological therapy
As a Counselling Psychologist I work with a wide range of issues but have a specialist interest in the impact of trauma and helping people overcome their past. I like to work from the client's perspective, helping them understand and make sense of their current difficulties. This helps to inform what we will work on together alongside the expertise from my training and experience.
Therapy
I offer one-to-one therapy for adults. I offer face to face therapy at my clinic room in Pocklington. I also offer online therapy via Zoom, including EMDR (eye-movement desensitisation reprocessing) which is a proven, leading trauma therapy approach for these type of issues.

I work in a holistic way, taking into account the person's whole experience and helping them to return to their true selves, integrating their experiences.

What to expect
I offer a free conversation over the telephone prior to starting therapy where you can ask questions and I will explain about what to expect in the first session.
Your first appointment will involve talking about your current problems and difficulties so that I can get a good understanding of how you might be helped. We might set some goals for therapy and agree how to we will work together.
Trauma Therapy
As well as working with common mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression, I also have a special interest in trauma. I can work with single, one-off traumatic events such as a car accident or sexual assault. I work with people who have a longer history of trauma such as abuse in childhood, domestic abuse or difficulties with attachment and early relationships.

Issues I work with:
-
Anxiety including panic, social anxiety and worry
-
Depression and low mood
-
Trauma including sexual, physical and emotional abuse
-
PTSD - post-traumatic stress disorder e.g. road traffic accident, sexual assault etc
- Low self-esteem and low confidence
-
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
-
Self-harm
-
Trauma related to birth
-
Postnatal-depression and adjusting to parenting
-
Parental support e.g. coping with school refusal
What sort of therapy I offer
As a qualified Counselling Psychologist, I am trained in a range of evidence-based therapies and approaches that I draw on throughout therapy, as appropriate. I believe that everyone is unique and the benefit of my wide training is that I can draw on what I believe will be most helpful to your presenting issues, at that time. We therefore might work with a range of approaches and this can be discussed in session.
Therapy types
I work with a range of approaches such as CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) including compassion-focused approaches and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).

I am also able to provide EMDR (trauma therapy) in person and online, which is effective in helping people overcome traumatic memories as well as future worries.
